— including 43 traditional, two urban (Osaka and Kyoto), one territory (Hokkaido) and the Metropolis of Tokyo —
Each prefecture is home to dozens of towns, hundreds of attractions and numerous local festivals.
And each prefecture has a strong and independent identity with its culture, food and dialect of Japanese language.

HokkaidoHokkaido is the most northern, and second largest island in Japan.
