Amagiso Onsen

Amagiso is a ryokan (Japanese Inn) located at the heart of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, Japan This ryokan surrounded by nature, with a history dating back to the Showa Era.

Amagiso onsen has feature that you can enjoy over ten baths that includes indoors bath, outdoors bath, private bath, and family friendly bath.
In some of the outdoor bath that are friendly to families (that means you can must use swimsuits) has a unique and has the largest waterfall in the Izu area, this waterfall is one of the Seven “Kawazu Waterfalls” , and its name is – Odaru waterfall

After you pay for your daily use, you need to go for few minutes outside tfor arrive to the onsen view.

And even if you not going to stay for overnight, daily usage is also available and the indoor bath, the reserved bath, the outdoor bath and the pool (seasonal) can all be used.
Also face towels, bath towels, and swimsuits are available for rental.

Pool

There are also pool that located near the outdoor onsen. The pool is can be used from end of April to early September. And the price is included in the entrance of the daily use.

The pool located alone the river, with many trees and green leafs around. A really good atmosphere to swim and feel the summer vibes.

Seven different waterfalls

The Kawazu Seven Waterfalls (Kawazu Nanadaru, 河津七滝) are seven waterfalls in the mountains above Kawazu Town in southeastern Izu.
A pleasant walking trail that takes about 1 hour and half, leads for about one kilometer through the forest and past the waterfalls.

Each fall has a name—Kamadaru, Ebidaru, Hebidaru, Shokeidaru, Kanidaru, Deaidaru and Odaru—all ending with “daru.”
Why ‘daru’ ?
In Japanese, waterfalls are read as taki (たき) and used by the Kanji 滝 or 瀧 .
But, only in Kawazu area the Kanji isn`t read as “Taki” , it is read as “Daru” .
The reason, is because in Kawazu the locals used to refer to waterfall as “water dripping” which in Japanese is “Mizu Ga Tareru” (水が垂れる) and in short “Tarumi” (垂水) and that`s the reason why the place called Kawazu Nanadaru and not Kawazu Nanataki.
7 Gods Name
Also each waterfalls name is from the 7 gods of fortune from the Japanese mythology and folk.

Kama-daru Waterfall

This waterfall is no.1 with 22m high , and 2m width.

Ebi-daru Waterfall

This waterfall is No.2 with 5m high and 3m width

This waterfall is No.4 with 10m high and 7m width.
Near the waterfall there a statue called ‘Odoriko to Watashi’ taken from Yasunari Kawabata’s short story ‘Izu no Odoriko’ (伊豆の踊子, “The Izu Dancer”). It`s popular point to view.

Kani-daru Waterfall

This waterfall is No.5 and it`s the smallest one. With 2m high, and 1m width.
(We didn`t take a good picture of this waterfall)

Deai-daru Waterfall

This waterfall is No.6 with 2m high and 2m width.

Oo-daru Waterfall

And waterfall No.7 the most biggest one in the area, and the one which located near the Amagiso Onsen.
A 30m high and 7m width.
You can enter to the waterfall in different gate if you don`t plan to go to the onsen. But, people who plan to go to the onsen, can enter from the ryokan.

Access

As you see, the last waterfall is the closed to the onsen. So we did the route in the opposite way. (Started in 7>6>5>4>3>2>1) and then walk back . It took us about 1 hour and half.

So if you start from the onsen, there a bus from Kawazu Station which takes 20 minutes to arrive, you need to get off in “Oodaru Iriguchi” station. There also shuttle bus which need to make reservation before. And it comes two time a day.

If you want only the waterfall hike , there also bus from Kawazu station which takes 24 minutes , but the station you need to get off is different, and called – Kawazu nanadaru station.
