A public park located on the Karasuma Peninsula. Kusatsu City that located in Shiga Prefecture on the southeastern shore of Lake Biwa. Mizu-no-Mori Water Botanical Garden is also known as Kusatsu Aquatic Botanical Garden.
The Garden is a wonder for flora enthusiasts. This botanical garden specialized in aquatic plants (such as lotuses, water lilies,) and is especially renowned for its lotus displays. Mizu-no-Mori means “water forest” (mizu =water, Mori = forest) and it’s easy to see why this treasure trove of plants invokes curiosity and glee from visitors.
Park Area
The Main Pond -
In the park area there few water spots. As you enter, you can see the main pond, which is popular in July to September for the Victoria plants (Water Lily family) . It is the most park`s famous spot. The Victoria plants have a photogenic area with two bridge in two sides. Which makes it like an art. And kids that under 30kg can also stand on this plant!
Water Lily & Lotus Pond -
As you continue to the park, there a Water Lily and Lotus pond. Which has so many kinds and colors of this flowers.
Atrium House
The atrium House provide domestic and foreign aquatic plants, water lilies, and lotuses. There are also other great exhibits such as murals, a video theater, an art gallery

Inside you can also see gift shop, that sells flower goods. And a restaurant with great view to the main pond.

The botanical park has a lot of green, and has a good atmosphere. You can walk around, and see other flowers, and other plants.

In the park there a small hill. On the top of the hill, there a cute heart shape photo spot. You have space to put your phone, for selfie.

Name: Mizu-no-Mori Water Botanical Garden (水生植物公園みずの森)
Hours: Normally – 9:00-17:00 July-August 7:00-17:00 November-February 9:30-16:00 (You can enter until 30 minutes before. But to the Atrium, you can enter 1 hour before closing)
Closed: On Mondays (If Monday, is holiday so the park will be closed in the next day) Also in the new year.
Entrance Fees: 300 ¥
Parking : Free
Best time to visit: In summer time, from July to September
Access: You need to take bus from the west exit of Kusatsu Station, and to get off in “Mizu-no-mori” bus stop. It takes about 25 minutes.
We used rental car from Kyoto station, it took us about 50 minutes.
