Takaya Shrine – The Shrine in the Sky

Takaya Shrine

Takaya Shrine stands on the peak of the 404-meter Mt. Inazumi, from where it overlooks the coastal city of Kanonji.
Takaya Shrine is called the “torii in the sky” since you can see the city  below from the main shrine. You can also enjoy the photogenic and spectacular view of the Seto Inland Sea and the mountains of Shikoku through the torii.

Takaya Festival

In the shrine, there also spring festival. It held every year in spring at the part of Takaya Shrine located at the foot of the mountain. The festival called the Takaya Shrine Taisai .
You can enjoy the chosa float competition and dances under the beautiful cherry blossoms.
We didn`t visit there in spring, so still didn`t went when there a festival.

Access

Since the shrine is on the mountian, the roads to the top are very narrow. On weekends and holidays its become dangerous if many people come. So the district closed the way to the shrine for cars (only in weekened and holidays and only in hours that the bus runs).
instead, they made a shuttle bus from Kotohiki Park which costs 1,000¥ for one way, and it is almost every 30 minutes. Please check the hours before in this link↗
The shuttle bus runs only on weekened and holidays, so in weekdays, the roads are opened to cars or for taxi. The roads are again, very narrow, so be careful if you drive there!
