Tokyo is one of the biggest metropolitan cities in the world. As a capital city of Japan, the city has population with more than 13 million, and has around 11% of the Japan`s total population.
The `Central` of Tokyo area is divided into 23 special wards (In Japanese they called – Ku) which each of them is further divided into districts. There another area in west Tokyo, called ` Tama area` and it is made up of 26 cities (shi), 3 towns (machi), and 1 village (mura). Also, need to mention that Tokyo also has also 11 islands that can be visited for tourism. Each area is certainly beautiful, and has its unique things to see and excperince.
If you take only Tokyo and divide it each area, you will see Tokyo like this:
I made this map colorful on purpose for make you see how big Tokyo is and how it has so many areas. To make it more visible and understandable, let’s take the 23 main districts Of Tokyo (were it is called ‘big city’) and divide it to 5 main areas:
East Tokyo includes Adachi・Katsushika・Edogawa・Taito・Sumida・Koto
North Tokyo includes Itabashi・Kita・Arakawa・Toshima
(In some maps the west and the south are written together, so that sometimes there are only 4 areas) I have decided to create this map with 5 areas so that the areas are easier to recognize.
Now, let’s take the another area of Tokyo, which is considered to be more ‘the countryside of Tokyo’ called “Tama Area” . And divide it to an 3 main areas which one area (the North area) can be divided to another 3 areas.
West Tama includes Okutama・Ome・Mizuho ・ Hamura・Fussa・Hinode・Akiruno・Hinohara
South Tama includes Hachioji・Hino・Tama・Machida・Inagi
Northern Tama is can be divided to more 3 parts: North Tama the west area includes Musashi-Murayama・Higashi-Yamato・Tachikawa・Akishima・Kokubunji・Kunitachi North Tama the north area includes Higashi-Murayama・Kiyose・Higashi-Kurume・Nishi-Tokyo・Kodaira North Tama the south area includes Koganei・Fuchu・Musashino・Mitaka・Chofu・Komae
