New Year Pancakes

Café Accueil, Tokyo

One of our best café we use to go a lot!
→  Café Accueil
A two floor of café place (recently, they opened a second floor because its popularity) with a specifics menu of omurice (consisting of an omelette made with fried rice and thin, fried scrambled eggs) & pancakes.

The café place located about 5 minutes from the South exit of JR Ebisu Station in Tokyo. If you use Metro, in the other side you can arrive to the café also in 5 minutes from the East exit of Daikan-Yama Station . So there a two option to arrive to the place.

In the recent years, they have a fixed menu which is not changing, while there a side of limited menu which is always change depend on the season or the holiday.

We tend to go to the limited menu because they make is so tasty and with amazing decorations.
This time, I want to write about the 2021 new year limited time pancakes.

The pancakes were limited from the end of December to the 11 of January.
2021 is Ox year. So, they did amazing decoration with a cow cookies and with the Japanese traditionally menu.

On the bottom its the pancake itself. You can see the thickness of this pancake. You can easily get full from this.
Above the pancake start the decoration –

On top there was a mochi (rice cake) with whipped cream & in the middle there was a mochi  with vanilla ice cream. Between the two mochi there is a pink-white marshmallow.
It came with sorbet orange flavor ice. And with orange cuts around the pancakes.
Around there is a plum flowers pink chocolate decoration.

This decoration called “Kagami Mochi”A “mirror rice cake” in English name (“Kagami” means “mirror” in Japanese). Its a traditional Japanese New Year decoration usually consists of two round mochi (rice cake) and a Japanese Orange (that`s why the pancakes also had pancakes cut around )  .

It often said that its shape resembles a bronze mirror, which was considered a treasure by the ancient Japanese.
The two mochi meaning that your fortune will double. And the Japanese orange supposed to give hope and prosperity to the following descendants.
All this makes Kagami Mochi a very lucky item.

Under the pancakes, there is a Omikuji paper (you can see it in the pictures).

Omikuji (おみくじ) are Japanese fortune-telling paper strips that can be found at shrines and temples throughout the country. The fortune that one is granted can range from having a great blessing (大吉) to a great curse (大凶).

The stuff told us to pull it before we start eating that it will not get dirty 😉
So that`s what we did:

So before eating the pancakes, we got to know our fortune of this year –
We got the Kanji means blessing
Not bad at all 🙂

We told to the stuff that we got our blessing fortune, and then they gave us a Macha cookie for more good fortune
SO AWESOME IDEA

I am always surprised by the Japanese ideas. They make them so good!
(By the way, people who get the “大吉” The great blessing get a free pancake gift card for the next visit! (How Lucky they are!)

So we got very full from the delicious pancakes, and were happy from their ideas and from the blessing fortune! 🙂 One of my favorite café in Tokyo!
